About the Ocean Research Network

A collage of photographs from the Canadian Arctic showing coastal Inuit communities, sea ice, a small fishing boat, a bird’s nest with eggs, a boat navigating through fjords, and a traditional Inuksuk overlooking the ocean. The images reflect daily life, ecological richness, and the cultural connections between Arctic communities and ocean environments.

From the past to the present, we’re interested in all aspects of change in marine and coastal environments, what future management could look like and how this impacts dependent communities. Our expertise spans disciplines, time and geographic scales.

Research areas include:

  • Climate adaptation: risk & adaptation, climate resilient pathways, indigenous communities, food security, Arctic
  • Marine Biodiversity conservation: spatial planning, marine protected areas, coral reefs, population dynamics
  • Paleoenvironments: paleo-oceanography, sea-level change, sea ice, paleoclimate, radiative forcing, offshore wind
  • Marine biogeochemistry: carbon cycle, marine sediments, isotope geochemistry, pollution, ecosystem function
