Professor Jo Garde-Hansen is Head of School of Media and Communication. Her research on sustainable flood memories, waterproofing data, drought risk and you, culminated in a recent monograph Media and Water: Communication, Culture and Perception (2021). She has collaborated with geographers, water scientists and UWE's Centre for Floods, Communities and Resilience on researching and media, culture and communications approach to how cultures, memories and archives on water, rivers, flooding and drought can connect with broader environmental policy making, adaptation and resilience in the UK and Brazil. More recently she has been working on the Amphibious Screens project, an exploration of the representation and legacy of coastal and water-based communities in film and television.
