This is the third workshop in our popular Water & AI series. We will explore some of the ethical issues surrounding the development, training, and use of AI. Please join us for what promises to be an interesting angle on the usual buzz around AI. We have a great line up of talks from people across the University, with some really interesting angles on the topic.

Objectives:

The objectives of this third workshop will be to:

  1. Understand some of the ethical issues that relate to the current AI revolution through expert talks from academics at Leeds researching or teaching ethics and AI.
  2. Share your experience and practice in using these tools and discuss any Ethical concerns or ideas that you may have.

Agenda:

Section one: Expert Presentations

Introduction, Mark Trigg, water@leeds Associate Director for Mission 1

Dr Paula Satne, School of Philosophy, Religion and History of Science: General introduction to AI ethics.

Prof Anna Mdee, School of Politics and International Studies: Yet another silver bullet?  Untangling promises, potential and hidden exploitation in AI and water debates.

Prof Evangelos Pournaras, School of Computing: Collective privacy recovery: Data-sharing coordination via decentralized artificial intelligence.

Rawan Bin Shiha, School of Computing: Methods In Analysing Bias in University Text

Section two: World Café style discussions.

Water & AI hands-on Away Day

  • Date:  Wednesday 10th July
  • Time: 10:00 – 15:00
  • Venue : Cloth Hall Court, Quebec St, LS1 2HA
  • Available places: 30

Registration is required - also let us know the topics which are of most interest.

We have had overwhelming interest in the water@leeds Water & AI workshop series. From those workshops, we have heard many requests for assistance in getting started and "stuck into" using AI in your Water Research.

Therefore, we have planned an away day to give people the opportunity to gain hands-on experience using AI in their work in a space away from the usual distractions.  Tell us the topics which are of most interest, by completing the registration form.  Then we can get the right people to train and support the away day.

If you have specific AI expertise you want to share in a friendly environment, please also let us know.

We have a maximum of 30 places, therefore we will be managing numbers based on topic and keenness! You will need to come to the away day with some data or a specific topic area you want to work on to get the most out of the day.

As places are available on a first come first served basis, we suggest you get your name and topic down sooner rather than later. This also helps us with getting appropriate trainers in place for the day.

These events are part of water@leeds Mission 1 led by Prof Mark Trigg.
